Most homeowners think ‘shingles’ when they think roofing. But there are several other excellent roofing materials available, including steel, slate and rubber. All have their advantages, says roofing expert Kelly Myers, but many clients are choosing steel for its exceptional durability and low maintenance properties.
Unlike asphalt shingles, metal roofing systems won’t warp, split or crack, and they’re impervious to mildew, rot, and insects. Metal is also a great choice for Minnesota homes, as it withstands heavy weather—from high winds to hail, snow and rain—better than other roofing materials. Snow and ice tend to slide off metal roofs, making ice dams less of a threat as well.
